Hunger is not a problem. It is an obscenity. How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world – Anne Frank

Our Mission

Zero Hunger India

India is a home to world’s largest number of hungry people. It is estimated that around 200 million people in India are food insecure. Poverty, sudden loss of livelihood, natural calamities and seasonal migration are some of the major reasons for endemic hunger. At times, there are even deaths due to hunger or hunger-related diseases.

Malnutrition too is widely prevalent in India. A huge number of children and women suffer from debilitating malnourishment. Childhood malnourishment leading to stunting/wasting affects a person’s physical growth and mental faculties lifelong.

At Satwikam, we dream of a hunger-free India,a country with well-nourished children and women, who can go on to realise their full potential in life. We want to contribute in our small way towards eradicating extreme hunger and malnutrition .

Our Work

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one – Mother Teresa

At Satwikam, we strongly believe that nobody should remain without food. Food is something most basic to human existence. In Delhi/NCR, every day a large number of people struggle to find two square meals a day. We try to reach out to them. We cook and distribute wholesome meals to them, especially to the most vulnerable among them – children and women. Meals are cooked in hygienic conditions and distributed at carefully selected spots by volunteers.

Beyond Food

Providing food to those who are without it is something most urgent and we are absolutely focused on it. But we do recognise that other necessities of life cannot wait. With our limited means, we try to reach out to the same groups with Hygiene packets (soaps, detergents, tooth paste etc), masks (in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic) and clothes

About Us

Journey So Far

Our journey started in March 2018, when six of us got together, pooled some money and rolled out our first service at Brahmpuri near Shastri Park in East Delhi. In our first few efforts, we served around 100 meals at a time. In our first month, we could do around 7 days of service, providing around 1000 meals. We rented a kitchen and gradually increased our capacity. Meanwhile we surveyed the nearby areas and decided a few spots like Geeta Colony area, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Yamuna Bazar and Yudhisthir Bridge. With better planning we have been able to significantly reduce per plate cost too. Now every time we go out, we are able to serve around 500 plates of freshly cooked simple meal. As we move along, every day more and more friends and well-wishers join us in this journey, enabling us to serve on an average 10-12 days a month. We hope, with continued support from all of you, we will be able to reach out to more and more people in Delhi/NCR and would be able to provide nutrition particularly to young children and women.
